Kristie's book is a fantastic resource for any person who is looking to live and love in a healthy, caring relationship. The book puts the focus on taking complete responsibility for our own actions and behaviors, rather than look to fix the other person first. Each chapter is filled with helpful suggestions and exercises that guide the reader to owning their own feelings and actions.

Kristie has written a wonderful guide with bountiful tips to fix any relationship by starting with yourself. In simple and easy to understand language she is able to help the reader to become aware of the role they are playing in every conflict in their lives. The many examples of real couples working through their problems take the information out of the theoretical realm into that of reality. It helped me a great deal to get greater clarity and the best possible approaches to fix one of my issues. Thank you for your insightful blueprint to better relationships!

If you are currently in a relationship or want to pursue one, this book is required reading. Even after being married for over 40 years, there were a lot of treasures in this book that I know will make my marriage better. I love that each chapter started off with a relevant cartoon that sets the tone for the chapter and then ended with homework. Also, there are three short quizzes at the end of the book so you can see how YOU are doing in your relationship. Too often we focus on what is wrong with our partners and forget that we really can't control him or her, but we can control and change ourselves for the better. Keep this book handy.

Kristie is one of the best speakers on relationships, human behavior, and the task of taking charge of your own life that I have ever come across. Her words, both written and spoken are instrumental in discovering how to grow as a person and within your relationships. It's worth the money!

Kristie's book, Fix Yourself First, is a great resource for anyone who feels they've been run down from bad friendships and relationships of any kind. The quizzes are fabulous at helping anyone who truly wants to self-reflect and improve their lives, decipher what repetitive, toxic patterns they've created to self-sabotage. If you have any friend who's a "negative Nancy or Ned" and you cannot figure out an effective, yet compassionate way to tell them to "Wake up" or you've tried and they just "Don't get it, or hear it" this book would make a splendid gift and perhaps be the most important book they read. It's the perfect time of year to plant a seed of self-improvement. Think about how your gift, your investment in this small book, could change someone's life in such a meaningful way. Get one for yourself, and more copies to pass out to friends.

Taking control of your life often involves that difficult first step of self-acknowledgement. Kristie’s book makes that an easy one. As you read through the chapters, you discover a compassionate, but also frank healing process that can help you navigate out of a toxic lifestyle. The sample stories give an immediacy to the learning and the cartoons reflect a friendly, nonjudgmental reading environment. It’s a treasure and every library should have a copy on their shelves

This book is straight forward and gives solid tips on what to do to create satisfying relationships. It is easy to read and is well organized, has fun cartoons and each tip has additional questions for people that want a little more guidance. Anyone that is in a relationship that isn't running smoothly will find their answer as one of the tips. The bonus quiz on "Deciding to end a relationship" offers clarity to anyone that isn't sure if their relationship will work.

My favorite advice: "If you can't remember the last compliment or gratitude that you gave your partner, then you need to give one immediately." Used it right away and my partner just lit up.

I work as a life coach and will add this to my list of books to recommend.

This was a great workbook to iron out the wrinkles in a relationship. There were many chapters/tips that hit a little too close to home which alerted me that I have some things to work on! There wasn't much fluff or hand holding when it came to giving out advice. But don't worry, there also wasn't any scolding or Sgt Slaughter "you maggot!" bark talk either. It was a good mix of concerned yet stern delegation of advice letting you know the reality of situations and how to make things better for yourself and your partner for the long haul. I highly recommended it.

As I read this book it became apparent that by “fixing yourself first” Dr. Kristie means tending to the whole person within. This book outlines how to connect to the complete person inside ourselves by means of redirecting our inner focus to serve our best lives forward as well as the lives of everyone through that self-commitment to practiced wholeness.
